Everything You Need To Know About Group Fitness

Struggling to find the motivation to workout? You’re not alone. Finding the will to get to the gym can actually be harder than the workout itself. The truth is, for many people, a fitness community can make exercising far more enjoyable and productive.

A great place to start your fitness journey is right here at John Welborn Fitness. Our fun and energetic group classes are filled with like minded people and are limited in size, making them ideal for those looking to gain individual instruction in a group setting.

How Do Group Workouts Usually Work?

Group workouts are a great way to get rid of excess fat in an upbeat, encouraging setting.

We keep our group classes small so that you don’t lose the personal instruction of a 1:1 workout, but also gain meaningful inspiration from everybody else in the group.

We’ll focus on strength training, high intensity workouts and aerobic work. With strength training, we’ll learn several simple exercises that effectively build strength and muscle mass. It’s amazing how much you can accomplish with uncomplicated weight lifting routines.

Our high intensity workouts are intended to burn as much fat as possible in a short 30 minute window. We’ll rotate these frequently so we never get bored or stuck in a routine.

Finally, aerobic work is key in building and renewing your energy so that you feel healthy and excited (yes, excited!) about keeping up with your fitness goals.

What Kinds of Classes Are Out There?

The most important part of group fitness is to inject fun into exercise, so it’s worth sampling the many classes on offer to find the one that fits best with your personality.

Let’s take a look at some of the most popular choices on the market:

Boot camps

These classes include cardio, interval training, weight lifting and dynamic stretching. Time will fly as you burn fat, increase strength and have fun.

Spin classes

Group cycling classes are designed to be an exciting and rigorous form of cardiovascular activity that will kick your lower body strength into gear.

Kickboxing

Kickboxing is a great way to sculpt your body and experience true empowerment as you burn heaps of calories.

Zumba

One of the more fun class types available, you’ll dance dance your way through this energetic workout and have a great time.

Yoga

Get in touch with your body and mind as you embark on a physical and mental journey in a yoga class that will help with strength, flexibility and mindfulness.

Pilates

Pilates is a low impact exercise aimed at strengthening core muscles and helping with balance and flexibility.

Aquatic Fitness

These low-impact exercises performed in a pool offer resistance based routines which are great for those battling injuries, joint problems or muscle pain.

John Welborn Fitness offers interactive boot camp classes for all fitness levels, and are tailored especially to those looking to lose a significant amount of weight.

Is Group Fitness Right for You?

Group fitness is a great place to start your fitness journey, especially if you’re looking to sample the many types of workouts available and find the one that works best for your body and mind.

The definition of being fit and healthy varies from person to person and there’s no one magical key that will unlock the door.

That’s why group fitness classes are so great, because they give you a chance to understand what works for you, and offers the communal motivation that’s so important to long term success.

Classes are available for all levels, and especially tailored to beginners looking to explore the complicated world of exercise.

How Do You Find the Perfect Class?

First, you should define your goals.

If weight loss is your main focus, it’s probably best to start with a high intensity class that includes a mix of cardio and interval training, like boot camps.

If you’re looking to build strength and muscle, try general weight lifting classes or classes that focus on specific muscle groups, like pilates or spin.

Want to improve your flexibility? Yoga’s a great place to start.

Once you know what you’re hoping to accomplish, you’re sure to find a class that’s suited for your needs.
